I was born and raised on the vibrant Arizona-Sonora border. My upbringing in this unique region has deeply influenced my writing, where themes of identity and the rich tapestry of diverse cultures come to life. Through my books, I explore the complexities of belonging, the beauty of cultural intersections, and the universal quest for self-discovery.

For over two decades, I have also worked in medical, mental, emotional and behavioral health research with the University of Arizona Departments of Gender & Women's Studies, Psychiatry and Medicine. My interests have always been in observing cultural influences that impact racial, ethnic, and gender health disparities. My work in academia has always been closely tied to and inspires the themes in my creative works. It has also fueled my desire to use literature and art as powerful and transformative spaces where creativity meets activism. Through writing, storytelling and illustration, I have tried to amplify marginalized voices, challenge prevailing narratives, and inspire readers to reflect on their own beliefs and actions so they may connect with social justice issues on a deeper, more personal level.

I have received creative writing grants from the American Association of University Women, Fundación Valparaíso (Mojácar, Almería, Spain), and Vermont Studio Center. My novel, Café Dulcet, received two awards in the 13th Annual International Latino Book Awards. I am also author of the motivational gift book Good Things for a Young Woman's Spirit and was creator and editor of Art Motif Magazine.

With each motivational note and story, I invite you to embark on a journey of exploration that transcends borders and celebrates the shared human experience.
